¡La Playa!

After a few days chilling out in Granada, today I headed down to San Juan del Sur to get some beach time in… I found a little hotel with rooms with a/c, private bath (cold water… but who needs hot water anyway?) and cable tv for $13… which is a bit of a splurge in this country but I’m about due for a splurge… The hotel is 1/2 a block from the beach.. which is pretty but certainly not the most beautiful I’ve ever seen… the town is on a horseshoe-shaped cove with huge cliffs all around… It’s very reminiscent of Southern California’s coast… It’s a type of ecosystem called chaparral… it’s also known as a Mediterranean climate… kinda dry, with shrubby foliage… Hehe… there’s one thing I learned in college…

So I’m here for a couple days before heading up into the gritty capital city of Managua on Thursday from where my 13 hour international bus ride originates on Friday… Saturday I meet up with Marzena in San Pedro Sula, Honduras for a week of fun…

So yes, I’m alive… very much so in fact… and tomorrow I get to spend a whole day baking in the sun!

Granada, Nica!

Yesterday I crossed the border into Nicaragua… a pleasant, though not quick, experience… I paid $10 for a bus directly from where I was in Costa Rica to the town I was headed for in Nicaragua so that the bus people deal with most of the immigration stuff… Waiting on line to get my exit stamp from Costa Rica took the longest… but entering Nicaragua wasn’t quick either… especially with all the fuss after this guy got pulled off the bus for smuggling cocaine… :)

I made a little map to show my progress so far:

That’s me where the red X is.. :) The red line is where I’ve been and the blue is where I’m headed in the next two months or so…

This is a really old colonial town and the architecture shows it… I’ve included a couple pictures I stole from the internet to illustrate what it looks like here… The hostel I’m staying at is in an old colonial mansion… which 2 courtyards, one with a leafy garden, the other with a little pool… It’s quite pretty here…
