I’m leaving in 6 days and I still don’t have a passport, a backpack, a camera or boots… but isn’t that how it always is with me? It’s pretty crazy that it’s rushing up on me so damn fast… I’m gonna be busy for pretty much the rest of the time before I leave so I’m just going to all of a sudden find myself in Panama thinking “What the hell just happened?” But maybe that’s how life should be…
P.S. I’m 23.
So I’ve finally finished the rough draft of my itinerary… So now I have the basic shape of the trip… I’m not really going to change it much more probably before I leave because all the planning you do on a trip like this goes to hell once you arrive on the ground and things start happening in real time… The only thing I’m not sure about yet is if I’m going to end up entering El Salvador or not… The only reason I want to is so I can have visited all the countries of Central America… but it would be another border hassle to deal with when there’s really not much that I want to see… So I dunno… that’ll be decided when I get within ~50km of the border 
So yeah… here they are:
So I’ve been busy reading up in my Lonely Planet guidebooks (if you’re going anywhere, I implore you to buy the appropriate LP book)… planning out where my stops will be… and trying to get an idea of how much I’ll be spending on each day… so far I have about the first month or so done… and I seem to be in the $22/day average range.. which means when I’m actually doing it, it’ll be more like $30/day which is still pretty ok… I’m going to attach a map of my route soon to give you an idea of where in the world I’m going to be… I’ll also be posting maps showing my progress and where I’m at during the trip itself…

So after hours of fiddling around with 4 different blogging software packages, I’ve finally settled on WordPress as my favorite. So here’s my first entry… and I’ll be updating this (hopefully regularly) with stories and pictures while on my 4 month journey from Panama to Riverhead, New York using only ground transportation. So yeah… stay tuned… My preliminary departure date is January 18th… we’ll see how that works out…
I’ll be updating throughout the planning process as well with tidbits and perhaps a draft itinerary and map…
